The Flower House

Property Description :

Situated 150 m up hill from a secluded beach of sand and shingle in its own delightful gardens is our newly renovated house. This quiet beach is lapped by crystal waters that teem with fish. Near the shore it is sandy but as you swim out there are reed beds and the snorkelling is magnificent. The beach is relatively safe for children as it does not shelve steeply or have big breakers. Also it is never crowded so it is easy to keep an eye on them as they play. the house consists of a ground floor that is built back into the hillside with low ceilings affording a cool retreat. Here is a sitting area, dining area, well-equipped kitchen with a full cooker and fridge freezer, and a bathroom with a corner bath. There are two single quality futons in this area which can be used for sleeping. Also from this area is a basement storage area with a very low ceiling. outside is a large area paved in karyston stone adjoining the barbecue, shaded by a pine tree and with views to the sea. The washing machine is situated under the steps that rise to the first floor balcony. This runs round three sides of the property thus ensuring there is always some shady area in which to sit and take in the views to the hills or out across the island dotted bay towards the mainland. the upstairs has higher pine clad ceilings and consists of a good-sized living room with a bed settee and two bedrooms and a toilet/shower-room. The main double bedroom has french doors onto the balcony through which one can look down to the beach. The rear bedroom has twin beds and a view to a beach in the other direction. The floors are tiled throughout and the bathrooms have been re-fitted. all bed linen and towels are provided as well as a welcome pack of some basic provisions. The house is cleaned twice a week. Visitors are given a contact number in case of problems and the local residents are friendly and helpful. this hillside forms a tiny hamlet without any facilities. To reach the village is a 50 minute walk along the beach, this is not strenuous although there are a couple of small promontories to climb over and in high season a bar along the way to stop at for refreshment. Alternatively a 5 minute car journey will bring you to the village centre.

Area Description :

Evia (euboea) is actually an island. It is, though, the second largest island after crete, and has a lot to offer. It is excellent for driving around on, since there are many villages and interesting places worth visiting. Of course, there are nice beaches as well, and depending on where you stay, you can enjoy some real peace and quiet, or a hectic nightlife. Evia can be visited both in the winter and the summer. It has a ski center which is very popular amongst the greeks, as well as places for water-sports. The capital of evia, chalkida, has been the capital since antiquity. It is a modern town today, with many shops, banks, bars, restaurants and so on. This is also where the bridge and ferryboats to and from the mainland are. Here, you can visit an interesting archaeological museum and see the ruins of ancient temples, as well as a 15th century fortress. Apart from exploring this amazing island, there are also several places for watersports in chalcida, nea stira and around kimi, for example, in summer and skiing on mt. Difris in winter. You can also go trekking or mountaineering and enjoy spas and hot, curing baths in several places.
